Background
A healthcare technology company specializing in digital therapeutics partnered with SubjectWell to provide patient recruitment for their type 2 diabetes clinical trial. SubjectWell delivered digital recruitment support leveraging a proprietary diabetes platform and patient database.
The challenge
SubjectWell needed to ensure that the patient population represented the overall diabetic population, especially in recruiting patients over 65 and patients of color.
The solution
SubjectWell utilized a variety of strategies and tactics in order to meet the diversity needs of the study:
- Age: Segmented population into specific age groups; modified bids, budgets, images, and messaging to the corresponding demographics.
- Geography: Focused on specific states and areas within them to drive efficiency.
- Ethnicity: Proactively aimed for patient ethnicity targets through diverse imagery and targeting based on audience and behavior.
- Gender: Tailored imagery and messaging to specific genders.
- Pre-screener logic adjustments: Modify pre-screener logic based on recruitment goals. (e.g., altering pre-screeners to prevent age groups from passing that were already fully recruited).
Despite initial reviews suggesting only 33% non-white patients would be recruited, SubjectWell was able to deliver over 50% patients of color, exceeding the diversity goals of the study.
The results
SubjectWell tracked and managed all patient leads and pre-screened patients (60,000+) to provide detailed reporting on diversity targets:
